Controversy | Partying without taking COVID precautions: On his 32nd birthday, Mike threw a party in Miami in November 2021. This was at a time when COVID-19 was at its peak in the US. Mike received a backlash after several photos surfaced on the internet of him partying without wearing a mask. Bioethicist Arthur Caplan, who was the director of the division of medical ethics at NYU Langone Health, criticised Mike for openly violating the COVID norms of the US government. He also said that Mike had failed as a role model and that he should be criticised for his behaviour. Even Mike’s fans criticised him for not following the COVID norms. Mike then apologized for his actions and said that he should not have done it and that he “needed to do better.” [6]The Daily Mail |

Some Lesser Known Facts About Dr Mike Varshavski

- Out of fear for his family’s safety due to rising anti-Jewish crimes in Russia, Mike’s father shifted the family to the US when Mike was just six years old. According to Mike, when he arrived in New York, he could only speak a few words in English. He also said that he found it difficult to adjust to his surroundings because of the cultural and language barrier. In an interview, he said,
When we came to the United States of America (in New York), I faced a lot of problems growing up. I did know only three English words: yes, no and maybe. On the first day of school in Brooklyn, my teacher assumed I spoke English and asked me a question. I said “yes,” so she moved on. She asked me another question. I said “no,” and she moved on. She decided to clarify with another question. When I said “maybe,” she knew I had absolutely no idea what I was talking about there. I guess most of the kids who come from different countries have to go through this. I, eventually, got over it and it was better then.”
