Birth and Family

JB Kripalani was born on 11 November 1888 in Sindh, Hyderabad, to a Hindu upper middle class family. The full name of JB Kripalani was Jivatram Bhagwandas Kripalani.
His father’s name was Kaka Bhagwandas. His father was a revenue and judicial officer in a government department. JB Kripalani had a total of eight siblings, he was the sixth child of his parents.

He got his initial education in Sindh school. After completing his schooling, Kripalani studied further at Wilson College, Bombay.
While studying, he started getting very interested in English poems, he would often read English poems. But he also had a special thing that he liked English poems very much but even more than that he hated English.
When he was studying for college, Bengal was divided at that time, but he did not remain calm and his anger towards the British increased. Due to his nature, his college forced him to send him to DJ Sindh College, Karachi, so that he could study peacefully there.
He later graduated from Fergusson College in Poona in 1908. He then earned an MA degree in History and Economics.

He was married to Sucheta Kripalani in 1936. She was a teacher in the Mahila Vidyapeeth of Banaras Hindu University. His wife also continued with the Congress party. During his political career, he served in many cabinet positions. She was the first woman to become the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.

From 1912 to 1917, he worked as Professor of English and History at Muzaffarpur College, Bihar. During the Champaran Satyagraha in 1917, when he met Gandhiji, he was impressed by Gandhiji, and the second phase of his life started. At Gandhiji’s behest, he started working with the Indian National Congress.
He worked as a principal in the Gujarat Vidyapeeth established by Mahatma Gandhi from 1920 to 1927. Since then he became famous as Acharya Kripalani. Earlier in 1919, for some time, he also worked as a teacher in Banaras Hindu College.
JB Kripalani Mahatma Gandhi used to insist on gene talks and used to work only on those who wanted to bring social reform. He went to North India and established new ashrams there so that the things told by Mahatma Gandhi could be expanded.
He also had to go to jail many times: – Salt Satyagraha, Civil Disobedience Movement, Quit India Movement, Participation in the movement and motivating people to fight against the British Government, he had to go to jail many times.

JB Kripalani Biography

He reached a very high position in the Indian National Congress in a short time because he was very active in the Indian independence movement. Due to differences with Nehru on many questions, he resigned from the President of Congress in November 1947 as he wanted the Congress to control the parliamentary body but other members of the Congress Party were against his thinking. Nehru and Patel in particular were opposed to their ideology. That is why Dr. Rajendra Prasad was elected the President of the Congress after Kripalani.
He founded the Kisan Mazdoor Praja Party. After some time his party joined the Samajwadi Party of India and a new party was formed which was named Praja Samajwadi Party. He was also a member of the Lok Sabha several times.

Acharya Kripalani passed away on 19 March 1982. He was 94 at the time.
