• Accused of being involved in sexual favours for political gains
While celebrating the occasion of the International Day of Democracy on 15 September 2009, the Express-News channel’s team invited three female politicians Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan, Dr Shireen Mizari, and Kashmala Tariq to initiate a healthy discussion on democracy. However, while conversing, Kashmala referred Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan as a “Lota” as she alleged that she kept switching parties and was not loyal to any. Firdous didn’t take the comment well and soon the healthy discussion turned into an ugly spat. • Argument with a news reporter
In December 2011, Kashmala stoked controversy for her rude and argumentative behaviour with a news reporter, Azaz Syed, who represented the Dawn News channel. During the interview, Azaz inquisitively asked Kashmala about the explanation letter issued to her, which demanded her justification for using Rs 850000 from the media and management funds of the party. • Leaked audio call
In 2013, a phone recording of a conversation between Kashmala and Humanyun Akhtar, a Pakistani politician and businessman surfaced online in which both were having an inappropriate conversation that specified sexual relations between them. Kashmala’s voice was not verified in the leaked audio tape but the netizens badly criticized her for her indecent conversation.

• Accused of mistreating media reporters
Rameeza Majid Nizami, the CEO of Nawa-i-Waqt, a Pakistani news channel, accused Kashmala of allegedly manhandling and detaining his team forcefully at the office of Federal Ombudsperson for Protection against Harassment of Women at the Workplace, in Islamabad on 8 March 2018. Rameeza and his team members interviewed Kashmala at his workplace for a show titled “Apna Apna Gareban.” He alleged that during the interview, Kashmala got irate and offended by a few questions and instructed the media team to hand over the interview clip at the office. When the media team refused her instructions, Kashmala got annoyed and asked his staff members to take hold and delete the interview footage. However, the situation turned into an ugly spat when the crew members were allegedly harassed, maltreated, and were bounded illegally at the office by the staff members on Kashmala’s orders. Matiullah Jan, one of the crew members tweeted the details of the incident, which read,
Waqt News Apna Apna Gareban team was attacked and harassed on the orders of Kashmala Tariq. Our equipment was confiscated and we were illegally kept in detention for an hour or so. Kashmala did not like questions and ordered her staff to detain us and confiscate the video.” [7]Dawn
Further, Kashmala accused the team of the news channel Nawa-i-Waqt and alleged that the crew members asked her unprofessional and improper questions. Additionally, she recorded her conversation, which she carried on with the channel after the interview summed up. Subsequently, she instructed them to delete the footage but the team members refused following which the arguments became intense and the situation went out of control. In an interview, one of the staff members at the Federal Ombudsperson’s office reported that Kashmala was troubled and provoked by Matiullah Jan, one of the crew members of the channel and said,
Mr Jan told the ombudsperson not to touch the equipment and lunged towards her. He not only harassed Ms Tariq but also pushed and injured other staff members.”

• Investigated by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB)
Kashmala, in January 2021, was investigated by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for an alleged transaction of Rs 12 crore, which was made by her rumoured boyfriend, Khawaja Muhammad Asif to her bank account through a frontman. Based on the evidence collected, the National Accountability Bureau claimed that the amount was transferred in two different transactions: Rs 7 crore in January 2015 and Rs 5 crore in August 2016. [8]Times of Islamabad Additionally, it was reported that Kashmala transferred a lump sum of money to Javed Waraich, the frontman of Khawaja Muhammad Asif.

• Trolled for making vain statements about democracy
In March 2022, Kashmala was invited to celebrate Women’s day at the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) in Rawalpindi, Pakistan. While addressing the students at the event, Kashmala stated that sending “Salam” (greetings) or “good morning” texts to unknown women will be taken as a form of harassment. After her video went viral on social media, she was harshly criticized for making useless and unjustified statements regarding harassment. Kashmala tweeted and blamed the media for inappropriately presenting her statements, which read,
At the Women’s Day Celebrations at Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce today, I said that people should not use their position of power to exploit women and ask them out for lunches and teas. That tantamounts to harassment too. I said unwelcoming and unwanted text messages and stalking on social media is also harassment. And then I gave examples. Media should not take just one line out of context please.”

• Notice issued for serving the post of Federal Ombudsman after completion of tenure
On 7 June 2022, based on the petition filed by Ejaz Mansoor, a resident of Lahore, Kashmala Tariq was issued with a notice by the Islamabad High Court regarding serving the post of Federal Ombudsman Secretariat for Protection Against Harassment of Women (FOSPAH) even after the completion of her tenure. Kashmala was sworn in as the Federal Ombudsman on 27 February 2018 for a four-year tenure, which ended on 27 February 2022 [9]Daily Times. Ejaz, in his petition, claimed that Kashmala continued to work despite of completion of her tenure and requested the court to stop her from serving the post.

• Accused of mental harrasement
Zarmina Iqbal, an employee of the Federal Ombudsman Secretariat for Protection Against Harassment of Women (FOSPAH) accused Kashmala Tariq of exploiting her mentally at the workplace in August 2022. In her complaint, Zarmina alleged that her promotion to the post of assistant director was due for two years and despite several efforts and requests, Kashmala didn’t bother to promote her. In February 2022, she filed a case at the Islamabad High Court following which Kashmala’s behaviour towards her changed drastically, and she began torturing her mentally at the workplace with vain allegations. Though Zarmina apologized to her multiple times the harassment continued. In an interview, Zarmina revealed that after she was investigated improperly by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) agents, she attempted suicide at the workplace, but Kashmala was hardly affected by it.
