NEW DELHI: Argentina’s Lionel Messi rewrote record books as he netted his sixth World Cup goal of the 2022 edition in the final against France on Sunday.
Messi converted the penalty in the 23rd minute, scoring his first ever goal in a World Cup final.
With the goal, the Argentine magician Messi levelled with Brazilian legend Pele in scoring most number of goals in a World Cup. Messi now has 12 World Cup goals which is also his 97th for his country.
The strike also made Messi the first player to score in the group stage, round of 16, quarter-final, semi-final and final in a single edition of the World Cup.

At the half-time break Argentina were 2-0 ahead of France with Angel Di Maria scoring the second goal in the 36th minute.
