Narottam Mishra vs Local Magazine
Reportedly, in 2013, a local newspaper ‘Jagat Vision’ published a cover story on Narottam Mishra titled ‘Narottam Ya Naradham’ (excellent man or despicable human). The story consisted of the allegations of extortion, forceful possession, exploitation, corruption, ransom, and murder against Mishra.

The magazine’s editor, Vijaya Pathak, in an interview, talked over his statements and allegations against Narottam Mishra and clarified that the decision of publishing a story on Narottam Mishra was taken as he was being highly publicized on news channels for his controversial activities. Vijaya Pathak, in the interview, said,
“I did that story based on evidence. Narottam Mishra was quite controversial. He had many cases against him, so we thought a story should be done about him. Although most cases against him were pushed under the carpet, he filed no defamation suit against me.” [4]Newslaundry
Conversely, Narottam Mishra, in an interview, mentioned the allegations made against him by the local magazine as baseless and added that he had received a clear chit on all cases against him from the Supreme Court of India. Narottam Mishra said,
“I speak only what I think is right. I have no cases of corruption against me. According to me, paid news is not a matter of corruption and I’ve gotten relief from the Supreme Court in this. About the bullying of Congress people, the case against them in Datia was filed by their own district president, not any BJP worker.” [5]Newslaundry

Narottam Mishra vs Income Tax Department
According to some sources, Narottam Mishra granted a tender worth Rs. 267 crores to a construction film in Hyderabad and allegedly received crores of money after it. As claimed, the money was first transferred from the shell companies to one of his confidants Mukesh Sharma and nearly 14 farmers of his constituency Dabra at the time. Reportedly, around Rs. 9.5 crore was transferred from the shell companies out of which Rs. 5 crore was used to purchase land by the farmers. As per Income Tax Department’s report, some documents were discovered in Mukesh Shamra’s house, claiming that those farmers of Dabra town in Madhya Pradesh were not in a position to buy the expensive land that they allegedly bought for Mishra in Ratanpur, Bhopal, with that transferred amount. Reportedly, the income tax tribunal granted relief to Mishra after he appealed against the above-mentioned report before the income tax tribunal. Income Tax Department to impose a tax on Mishra for the alleged amount filed an appeal to the Madhya Pradesh High Court, but the judgement of the Madhya Pradesh High Court ruled in favour of Narotam Mishra. A controversy was heated up when a sting video titled ‘Horse Trading BJP Exposed’ was uploaded on social media in 2020 by Dr Anand Rai Mishra, an Indore-based medical officer and one of the three main whistleblowers in the Vyapam scam (an entrance examination and recruitment scam) in Madhya Pradesh, claiming that Narottam Mishra offered an amount of Rs. 100 crores ministerial posts to the MLAs of the Digvijaya Singh-led Congress government for tampering the Kamal Nath government.

Narottam Mishra vs Sabyasachi
In 2021, the fashion house Sabyasachi released a series of pictures presenting models in intimate apparel wearing ‘mangalsutra,’ a traditional necklace worn by women in India after their wedding. Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra raised his voice against the advertisement campaign and called it “obscene and objectionable.” Narottam Mishra demanded the designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee take down the advertisement and threatened him on the name of legal actions. After observing the hurt sentiments of the people of the society and receiving threats from Narottam Mishra, the advertisement was immediately taken down. A message on the official social media handle of Sabyasachi was posted about the withdrawal of the ‘mangalsutra’ advertisement campaign, acknowledging the response to it.

Narottam Mishra vs Bollywood
Narottam Mishra could be spotted wrangling and releasing statements against some films and songs from Bollywood including its directors and actors. In 2022, Narottam Mishra, Home Minister of Madhya Pradesh, expressed his objection against the song ‘Besharam Rang’ from the film ‘Pathaan’ (2023), starring Deepika Padukone and Shah Rukh Khan. Mishra believed that the scenes and the costumes worn by Deepika in the said song were objectionable, and he requested them to be corrected immediately. In an interview, in Indore, Narottam Mishra talked about it and said,
“I would request to correct the scenes and her (Padukone’s) costumes (in the song), otherwise whether this film should be allowed in Madhya Pradesh or not will be a question to be considered.” [7]The Economic Times
Narottam Mishra objected against other films including Om Raut’s ‘Adipurush’ (2023), an adaptation of Indian mythology Ramayan, and Leena Manimekalai’s ‘Kaali.’
